Blair
National Poetry Slam Champion and published poet BLAIR will read and
perform poems from Moonwalking, his new manuscript about the life,
career and influences of Michael Jackson out on Penmanship Books. He will
be joined by his band The Boyfriends, a group of men and women on
acoustic guitar, upright bass, drums violin and clarinet.

Belly Dance Classes with Sarah Schneider Koning

Class Descriptions:
Beginning Belly Dance (Level One) This class focuses on beginning level Middle Eastern Dance from a
Tribal Style perspective! Learn the subtle nuances between the various styles of belly dance as well as
build a vocabulary of movement. We will focus on isolations, drills, basic traveling steps and simple
choreography. Absolutely no dance experience needed!
Beginning Tribal (Level Two) This class is for the student with some experience in Middle Eastern Dance.
This class has a strong focus on building a repertoire of Tribal Style movements. We will begin to explore
dancing as a group through improvisation. Isolations, drills, traveling steps and some choreography will
be covered as well. Also studied, will be the history of Tribal Style and costuming. This class is for
students that have completed at least two six-week sessions of beginner level.
Intermediate Tribal (Level Three) This class is for those students that have completed Beginner Tribal. We
will focus on isolations, drills, and traveling steps. We will further our explorations into group
improvisation and encourage student creativity. Combinations and choreographies will be taught and
there will be opportunities for performance. You will need permission from the instructor before joining
this class.
Children's Belly Dance (5-10yrs) A fun class for your budding dancer! Students will focus on basic belly
dance technique and apply it through a choreographed number. Opportunities to perform will be provided.
Sarah Schneider is the Artistic Director of Boheme, a Belly Dance troupe based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She has studied Middle Eastern Dance since 1996 and found her heartstrings tied to Tribal Style very
shortly thereafter. She has travelled throughout the U.S. to study with some of the most famous
innovators of this style, including Carolena Nerricio, Paulette Rees Denis, Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Zoe
Jakes, Ariellah, Amy Sigil, Heather Stants, Morocco, and many many more. For more information on
